The Fuchsia Appeal was launched in 2009. Donations may be made at any time during the year, particularly through the one-veterans.org website. However, the selling of tokens and emblems is usually focused on a short-defined period during the year. The 2022 Fuchsia Appeal will begin on Friday, September 2nd, launch will be in Cork City Hall and, as with previous years, funds raised will go towards financing ONE’s vital outreach services aimed at helping veterans get back on their feet. The fundraiser will conclude with the hosting of a Coffee Morning in every installation in the Defence Forces and in other locations on Friday, September 30th.
The Fuchsia Appeal, which involves the selling of Fuchsia Emblems and tokens, aims to raise vital funds for the continued support of ONE’s homes, services, and veterans. Fundraising takes place online, on the streets, at supermarkets, shopping centres, outside churches, at sporting venues, at Coffee Mornings, and at other appropriate locations.
The fuchsia was chosen as it is widely grown throughout Ireland and is commonly known as Deora Dé or God’s Tears in the West of Ireland. The Fuchsia emblem is a fundraising emblem, a badge of remembrance and a symbol to honour those currently serving in the Defence Forces.
Last year, 2021, the launch took place on September 11th, in The Mansion House, Dublin. The event coincided with the charity's 70th anniversary and was held in the same building where the organisation was first founded in 1951. The Chief of Staff designate of the Defence Forces, Major General Sean Clancy, launched the 2021 Appeal, which ran from September 25th to October 1st. The fundraiser concluded with the hosting of a Coffee Morning in every installation in the Defence Forces and in other locations on Friday, October 1st, 2021 – the 97th anniversary of the transition from National Army to Óglaigh na hÉireann (October 1st, 1924).
